Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park is the one of the safest and outstanding shelter of largest population of tigers and exotic flora and fauna of India. Kanha National Park established in 1955 & declared as the tiger reserve in 1975 and total coverage area is 940 sq kilometers. It is the famous national park of horse shoe shaped valley that is Madhya Pradesh at the district of Mandla. Its scenic beauty, evergreen forests and sunset point attract the tourists. There are 175 varieties of birds and 22 species of mammals. It has four vegetation types that are moist deciduous forest, dry deciduous forest, Plateau meadow and valley meadow. The park is divided into three ranges i.e. Kisli, Kanha, Supkhar in eastern Ghat and Bhainsanghat.

General Information

Best time to visit: October to June

Flora: Sal tree(Shorea Robusta), Bamboo, mixed Bamboo, 600 species of flowering plants.

Some important Fauna are as follows:


Mammals: Chital, Sambar, Wild Boar, Langur, tiger, Leopard, Jungle cat, Sloth Bear, Wild dog, Barhsingha, Blackbuck, Mouse Deer, Chausingha or four horned antelope, Nilgai, Ratel and Porcupine.

Birds: Water birds, the black Ibis, Bee eaters, Cattle Egret, Blossom- Headed, Parakeets, Pond Heron, Drongos, Grey Hornbill, Indian Roller, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Lesser Adutants, Lesser Whistling Teal, Minivets, Pied Hornbill, Woodpecker, Pigeon, Paradise Flycatchers, Mynas Peafowl, Red jungle Fowl, Red Wattled Lapwing, Steppe Eagle, Tickell’s Flucatcher, White- breasted Kingfisher, White- browed Fantail Flycatcher, Wood shrikes and Warblers.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Jabalpur which is directly connected to the Delhi and Mumbai which is 200 kilometers from this sanctuary.

By Rail: The nearest railhead is Jabalpur (175 km).

By Road: Kanha National Park is connected by road with Jabalpur 175-kms, Khajuraho 445-kms, Nagpur 266-kms, and Raipur 219-kms.
