Dibru Siakhowa National Park

The Dibru Siakhowa national park is the popular habitat of Assam state of India of north east India. It is located on the bank of the river Brahmaputra in the extreme east of Assam. It is the safest place for the flora and fauna. It is mainly famous for White-winged wood duck which is rare found in the India. This national park is made in the year 1986 but declared in the year 1999 and covers the 340 square kilometers area. Dibru Siakhowa National park is the one of the 19 biodiversity hotspot across the globe. The semi evergreen and deciduous forests attract the international and national tourists every year.

General Information

Best time to visit: The best time to visit here in winter November to April.

Flora: There are rare tree species like Dillenia indica, Mesua ferra, Salix tetrasperma, Dalbergia sissoo, etc. Many other orchid species are also found.

Some important Fauna are as follows:

Mammals: The national park consists of a total of 36 species which include Hog Deer, Gangetic Dolphin, Royal Bengal Tiger, Jungle Cat, Asaiatic Water Buffalo, Capped Langur, Small Indian Civet, barking Deer, Slow Loris, Clouded Leopard, Asian Elephant, Chinese Pangolin, Malayan Giant Squirrel, etc.

Birds: there are 350 species of birds. Peacock, Jungle Fowl, partridge, Kaleej Pheasant, crow, vulture, parakeet, Laughing Thrush, oriole, kingfisher, drongo, dove, woodpecker, duck, teal, stork, cormorant and seagull.

Reptile: Indian marsh crocodile, lizard, turtles, March Babbler, Griffon Vulture, Grey Heron, Yellow Bittern, Bengal Florican, Great Grebe, Jardon's Babbler, Spot Billed Pelican, Graylag Groose, Purple Heron, etc.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Dibrugarh, which is located at a distance of 40 km from Tinsukia.

By Rail: The nearest railway station is also at Dibrugarh which is linked with Guwahati by a broad gauge.
