Mount Abu Sanctuary

Mount Abu is known for its natural beauty and greenish valley that is famous hill station of India but it is also popular for amazing national park and wildlife sanctuary which is located between the Himalayan and Nilgiri mountain ranges. The sanctuary spread over 288 kilometers is conquered by subtropical evergreen forests known for its cool refreshing air, fully charged with the jasmine. The Mount Abu wildlife sanctuary was declared as a sanctuary in the 1960. It is located in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan, India and it is 185 kilometers far from Udaipur. It is made from igneous rocks which have formed large cavities in many areas due to the weathering effects of wind and water. This is ordinary throughout the entire Mount Abu region. Many people visit the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary just for the sightseeing and views, but most visit The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary for Flora and faunas.

General Information

Best time to visit: The best time to visit Mt Abu is either in the months of Feb - June or in the months of Sept - Dec.

Flora: The flora in Mount Abu national park is founded in 112 varieties of plants. The floral plants include roses, Champa and Jasmine. The sanctuary also abounds in Kacchar, Kaionda, Mango, Khajur and Phaludra and other herbs and plants with medicinal values. There is also xenomorphic subtropical thorn forest at the foot hills and subtropical evergreen forest near water sources and high altitudes.

Some important Fauna are as follows:

Mammals: Langoor, Indian Civet, Hyena, Wild Boar, Sambhar, Chinkara Pangolin, Jungle Cat, Leopard, Hedge hog and Porcupine. This sanctuary has also sloth bear, tiger and Lion.

Birds: The sanctuary is also the house of more than 250 species of birds and the grey jungle fowl is endemic to this region.

How to Reach

By Air: Udaipur airport is the nearest airport which is 185 kilometers far from this sanctuary.

By Rail: Udaipur is the closest railway station.

By Road: Comfortable deluxe buses are available from Jaipur and Abu Road to Mount Abu. The place is also well connected to Delhi, Udaipur, Ajmer, Bundi and Udaipur by road.
