Corbett National Park

This national park is the first wildlife reserve of India for conservation of the tigers and it is extending over an area of more than 500 sq km in the Himalayan foothills. It is located at the Nainital, pauri Garwhal and Bijnore Districts of Uttranchal. It is established in the 1936. It is home to verity of flora and fauna. Corbett has the highest density of tiger in the Country. Corbett is a sanctuary for 50 mammals, 580 kinds of birds and 25 reptile species. The Park has elephants, the Himalayan black bear in the higher elevations, sloth bear, varieties of lesser cats, dholes -the wild dog and an entire spectrum of colorful birds including water birds, pheasants, jungle fowl and the Indian hornbill. It is one of the best protected areas for tigers in the world.

General Information

Best time to visit: The best time to visit here in winter November to February and in summer March to June.
 
Flora: There are mainly three trees that are sal, pipal, haldu, rohini and mango trees covering about 73 per cent of the entire forest region and 10 percent area is surrounded by grassland. Corbett houses 110 different varieties of trees including bamboos, grasses, shrubs, herbs, climbers and ferns. Flowering trees like Kachnaar (pink to white), Semal (red), Dhak (bright orange), Madaar (scarlet red) and Amaltas (bright yellow chandelier shaped) lend a mix of colors to the Corbett national park.

Some important Fauna are as follows:

Mammals: Tiger leopard, elephant, chital, hog deer, barking deer, wild boar, langur, Wild pig, rhesus monkey, Sambar and jackal.

Birds: Peacock, Jungle Fowl, partridge, Kaleej Pheasant, crow, vulture, parakeet, Laughing Thrush, oriole, kingfisher, drongo, dove, woodpecker, duck, teal, stork, cormorant and seagull.

Fish: Mahaseer, kalimuchi, kalabasu, chilwa and goonch.

Reptile: Indian marsh crocodile, gharial, King cobra, common krait, cobra, Russels viper, python and monitor lizard.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Phoolbagh, Pantnagar which is at the distance of 80 kilometers. The nearest international airport is Delhi.

By Rail: Ramnagar is the nearest Railway Station which is connected by Delhi. It is 51 kilometers from this National Park.
